Hi everyone, I know that most programs interview during December and January, but are there many that interview in November? I am asking because I am considering doing an away elective in November...is that too late, especially if that is my top choice? Thanks.

I did a rotation in November and I thought it was a great time to do it as long as you don't want to get a letter of rec to send to other programs from that rotation. My schedule was my home program in August, one away in September at a big name where I wanted to be sure to get a letter, and one in November at a program I was very interested in, but wasn't a big name and getting a letter wasn't that important to me. The advantage to doing a rotation this late is that you are fresh in the program's mind when it comes interview time. Granted you have to do an awesome job and stand out while you are there, but you are likely to be among a smaller group of rotators if not the only one. As far as interviews, I don't remember any being in November, but if there are, it is not many. Hope that helps.

Is there any consensus on how to request a day off during an away to interview? Is it frowned upon to take a Friday to interview and be able to start work again on Saturday?

Thanks
