i.e., do they have some sort of record of where you did an away? For instance, I'm planning on doing two aways in my home town to help make my chances of staying at home more likely, so I have heard that doing many aways in one place may make your motives sound suspicious.

However, if interviewers have no record of your away rotation schedule, then it's simply what you "say," to them that lets them know?

Thanks

Programs can also infer where you did aways from your LORs. I think it is very benificial to have LORs from your AIs (it's a less biased view than your home program). But, they kinda show your hand about the places you rotated, and therefore which types/locations of programs interest you. I posted a more complete opinion of doing all your AI's in one region is another thread The bottom line is that it will likely help you in your local area, but hurt you abroad. The problem I see is that there are a hell of a lot more programs abroad than in your local area. I'm fundamentally an odds player... so I think doing all your AI's in one spot can hurt your chances (this is assuming you're not >260, AOA, Ranked No. 1, 15 JBJS pubs, blah blah... in which case you can do whatever you like without hurting yourself).

you should check with your dean's office to see if the institution you do an away elective at gets listed on your transcript as programs will certainly see that....even if it doesnt, doing mulitple rotations in one city at different programs should only indicate that you may be committed to a specific region.
