Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in pediatric orthopaedic patient care, education, and basic and clinical research; in fact, CHOP physicians have pioneered 15 orthopaedic surgical procedures and are internationally renowned for their skill in limb-sparing surgery, tumors, spines, hand, sports and trauma. We have fourteen board-certified attending physicians, each with different subspecialties in pediatric orthopaedics, pediatric nurses, nurse practioners, and several physician assitants.  The division has written over 40 papers in referenced journals and over 48 chapters within the past year alone.  In addition, the division performed over 2,331 surgeries within the past twelve months.  Our world-class research continues to advance improved care and cures for children and teenagers with all orthopaedic conditions.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop research projects with any members of the faculty in CHOP's Division of Orthopaedics; however, the funded year-long experience will be supervised by Dr. John M. Flynn.  In his 12 years with CHOP orthopaedics, Dr. Flynn has created over 150 publications and has a strong track record and passion for mentoring and teaching.  He has supervised dozens of medical student research projects, and was the recipient of both the University of Pennsylvania Dean's Award for Teaching and Penn's Department of Orthopaedics teaching award.
