Pokémon Go is the smartphone game that has taken 2016 by storm, generating around 4-5 million downloads and around $1.6 million in revenue every day. One suggested benefit of the augmented reality game is that it boosts physical activity. But while a new study supports this claim, it finds that the effect is not long-lived.

Researchers say that Pokémon Go can increase physical activity, but that the effect is unlikely to last.

Researchers reveal that Pokémon Go can improve physical activity among young adults by increasing the number of steps taken. However, this effect is likely to wane within 6 weeks of first playing the game.
