CLINICAL OVERVIEW

ECA Medical announced the full commercial release of its TruCLIQ™ bi-directional torque-limiting ratchet, engineered specifically for single-procedure orthopaedic, trauma, and spine surgery. Designed as a standalone sterile-packed instrument or as an integrated component within pre-packaged procedural kits, TruCLIQ™ features a proprietary dual-direction mechanism that allows seamless switching between forward drive, reverse extraction, and fixed locked modes.

The instrument incorporates an audible tactile "click" feedback mechanism that precisely limits torque application, preventing screw head stripping, construct over-tightening, and micro-fracture of osteopenic bone. Manufactured from medical-grade polymers and stainless steel drive shafts, the instrument delivers the ergonomic balance and torsional rigidity of reusable stainless steel instruments with zero reprocessing liabilities.

REGULATORY & EVIDENCE PATHWAY

  • Regulatory Basis: FDA registered manual surgical instrument compliant with Class I and Class II device safety benchmarks and ISO 13485 manufacturing tolerances.
  • Supporting Evidence: Biomechanical bench fatigue evaluations demonstrate calibration accuracy within ±5% across 200 consecutive drive cycles, far exceeding single-case requirements.
  • Key Data Points: Torque-limiting release mechanisms eliminated 100% of screw thread stripping events in synthetic bone block testing under maximum clinician hand torque.

SURGICAL WORKFLOW IMPACT

Reusable torque drivers in hospital inventories frequently experience calibration drift over repetitive autoclaving cycles, introducing variability into construct tightness. TruCLIQ™ arrives 100% sterile and factory-calibrated, eliminating the need for periodic hospital recalibration regimens and eradicating surgical delays caused by missing or damaged sterile processing trays in high-turnover Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs).

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

TruCLIQ™ competes against reusable stainless steel ratchets provided in conventional implant sets from Stryker, DePuy Synthes, and Medtronic, as well as single-use instrument lines from ECA's custom OEM partnerships. Its bi-directional capability offers a functional advantage over unidirectional single-use competitors that require changing driver attachments to back out a screw.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE FOR ORTHOGATE MEMBERS

For attending surgeons operating in ASC environments, single-use torque-limiting instrumentation guarantees reproducible biomechanical construct integrity. Precise torque application is critical in fragile bone beds, pediatric fixations, and cervical pedicle screw placements where over-torquing can compromise purchase and precipitate construct failure.
