Fellowship Description

University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is pleased to offer a 1-year funded Pediatric Orthopaedics Research Fellowship in Cleveland, Ohio.

This fellowship provides an immersive experience in academic pediatric orthopaedics, with opportunities to participate in clinical research from study development through publication. The fellow will work closely with pediatric orthopaedic faculty, residents, medical students, and research staff and will become an integral member of the division’s research program.

This position is ideal for a motivated medical student interested in pediatric orthopaedics, orthopaedic surgery, or academic medicine who is seeking dedicated research experience prior to medical school graduation.

Fellowship Responsibilities

As a full-time research fellow, responsibilities will include:

• Designing and conducting retrospective and prospective clinical research studies

• Developing research questions, study protocols, and data collection tools

• Preparing and submitting IRB protocols and regulatory materials

• Collecting, managing, and analyzing clinical research data

• Performing statistical analyses

• Drafting and revising manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication

• Preparing abstracts, posters, and presentations for conferences

• Collaborating with medical students, residents, faculty, and research staff

• Participating in and presenting at quarterly research meetings

• Observing pediatric orthopaedic surgeries and outpatient clinics

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

• Be a medical student between their 3rd and 4th year

• Have a strong academic record and a genuine interest in pediatric orthopaedics or orthopaedic surgery

• Demonstrate excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills

• Be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently

• Work effectively as part of a collaborative research team

• Have prior research or publication experience preferred, but not required
