There are a ton of "good" southern ortho programs. Duke is of course a good program, just depends on what you are looking for. Other good programs include: UNC, Carolinas, Campbell Clinic, Greenville, Florida, Miami, UAB, and Mississippi are all very good training programs.

Now if you are asking about sports experience, I can not comment on many of these places. My guess is that all are adequate. Campbell's is a good sports experience, I am sure Carolinas and Florida are good as well. I can not say about the rest.

Miami, although I am not sure how much I would consider it "South" per say. You get to work with Dr. Uribe, one of the best sports guys in Florida.

University of Virginia has to have one of the most dynamic sports programs, although this is a more recent development. Dr. Miller is up there and he is, without a doubt one of the biggest names in sports today. This porgram should definitely be considered one of the best sports programs in the south, if not the country. The overall training program is quite good as well.
