Position: Clinical Research Fellow
Positions: 2 (One M3 looking to take a research year and one unmatched M4)
Duration: 1 year
Location: University of Mississippi Medical Center Department of Orthopedic Surgery - Jackson, MS
Salary – paid position ($30-35k)

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at UMMC is looking for motivated medical students to apply for a one-year clinical research fellowship. Fellows will have the opportunity to attend lectures, Grand Rounds, interact with residents/staff, and be an active participant in both the clinic and OR. These didactics are led by Program Director Dr. Ibe, Chairman Dr. Graves, and faculty representing all orthopedic subspecialties. Throughout the year the fellow will regularly interact with current residents and be mentored on the skills needed to become a stand out 4th year medical student during both their home and away rotations. The fellowship time will be split into 50% clinical (OR, clinic, and call) and 50% research. This allows for students to develop and grow in both settings which will be crucial to being a stellar applicant for residency.
  1. MS3 and MS4 students with a strong interest in orthopedic research.
  2. Prior research experience preferred but not required. Statistical experience strongly preferred.
  3. Able to work independently, meet deadlines, and complete tasks/projects in an efficient manner
Research Fellow Responsibilities 
  1. Coordinate multicenter METRIC studies 
  2. Gather and analyze larger datasets 
  3. Act as the point of contact with patients through enrollment and continued follow up 
  4. Submit and draft IRB protocols 
  5. Present abstracts at the annual resident research day regional conferences, and national conferences 
  6.  Work with orthopedic residents, fellows, and attendings on various projects
  7. Assist with clinic and OR, as needed.
