Position: Research Fellow.
Duration: 1 year.

Where: University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics.
Who: Under the direction of Dr. Joshua M. Abzug, Director of Pediatric Orthopaedics. Dr. Abzug is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine who specializes in Pediatric and Upper Extremity Surgery.
When: Start in May - June 2016.
Dr. Abzug is seeking an ambitious U.S. medical student or postdoctoral researcher who is interested in a yearlong clinical research fellowship in pediatrics and upper extremity surgery.
This is an extremely productive research fellowship that will result in several published manuscripts, book chapters, and national conference podium/poster presentations. The fellow will be primarily responsible for writing these manuscripts/book chapters, and conducting prospective research trials in clinic throughout the year. Additionally, there will be research collaborations with surgeons at the Shock Trauma Center.
The fellow will also be a research mentor to summer research students in medical school and help in the completion of their manuscripts. There will be ample opportunities to get involved with the Maryland Orthopaedic Residency including weekly dedicated didactics, grand rounds and pediatric/hand conferences.
Research/Clinical duties include:
-Clinic 3x a week to enroll patients in prospective trials; Identifying, consenting, and acting as a resource for study participants.
- Supervision of 1st and 2nd year medical student Orthopaedic research projects during the year.
- Basic statistical analysis of data.
- Drafting of new IRB protocols.
- Serve as the primary author for all manuscripts he or she significantly contributes to and is responsible for the submission to various journals (e.g. JPO, JHS, JBJS, JAAOS)
- Assisting with lab work, including cadaver dissections if necessary.
