Need some help figuring out which programs to do aways at. Prior posts indicate southwestern and san antonio favor rotators but I have heard otherwise from somewhere else. Anyone care to comment?
Not being from Texas, I have no clue as to how the programs rank overall. Many posts in the past have ranked baylor low compared to the UT programs. has any of this changed?
Also is it realtively more difficult for out of staters in texas, and does doing texas aways put me on equal footing as instaters?

any and all responses would be much appreciated
thanks

UT Southwestern favors rotators VERY heavily. In fact, you pretty much have to be an absolute all-star to get in there without having worked the department as a rotator.

Baylor has been ranked low the last few years because of stability problems in the department and lack of a permanent chair. These isues may now be resolved, perhaps someone else can comment on this.

I can't really comment on the other programs, but I have heard through the grapevine that UT Houston is an up-and-comer with a great chair.

I would say that most programs in Texas favor rotators, but that is probably essentially true throughout the country. To reiterate the previous post, UTSW has traditionally been very partial to rotators. Some of the other programs heavily favor rotators because of size (UT-Houston 3, UT-Galveston 4).

I interviewed at most of the Texas programs and would probably tier them:

1st- UTSW & UTH

2nd/3rd- San Antonio (great residency director), Galveston (nice call schedule and comradery), A&M (operate a ton, but live in Temple), Baylor, JPS
