The St. Joseph’s University Medical Center (SJUMC) Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program in Paterson, New Jersey, invites all interested and qualified individuals to apply for a 2-year orthopaedic spine research fellowship position. This is a salaried position that will begin on or before July 1, 2022 and is open to all candidates who will be medical school graduates by that time. This is a great opportunity for those looking to contribute to the field of orthopaedic surgery through clinical research, build their CV and increase their chances in matching into an orthopaedic surgery residency. Almost all of the previous research fellows have successfully entered U.S. orthopaedic residency programs.As a clinical research fellow, you will work under the mentorship of Dr. Arash Emami, Chairman of the SJUMC Residency and founder of University Spine Center, Ki Hwang, M.D, Kumar Sinha, MD, and Michael Faloon, MD. This presents an opportunity to work with national and international leaders in spine surgery, to assist with clinical trials, to gather and analyze data, to attend and present your work at regional and national conferences, and to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Previous fellows have published multiple PubMed-listed articles and have presented at the annual meetings during their fellowships.The research fellow works closely with the SJUMC residents, faculty, and other institutions on ongoing research projects. Additionally, the research fellow works with, teaches, and mentors premed students and medical students. The research fellow also attends weekly lectures, grand rounds, and all educational activities including cadaver lab sessions, conferences, and journal clubs. 

We are looking for an individual who:
- Has a strong motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery
- An evident interest in research and a strong academic record
- Has previous research experience, experience with statistical analysis is encouraged
- Has the ability to work independently
- Is productive, extremely organized, detail-oriented, and can multi-task
- Has strong communication skills and can work well with others 

The research fellow will be responsible for:
- Coordinating and managing all of the ongoing research projects
- Maintaining the surgical case log and research databases
- Drafting, submitting, updating protocols, and presenting to the IRB
- Attending to all resident education events
- Coordinate and assist with clinical trials
- Data collection, statistical analysis, manuscript writing and submission, abstract preparation and submission, administrative tasks, book chapter and PowerPoint presentations
- Working closely with the attendings, residents, clinical staff, teaching and mentorship to premed and medical students
