I am starting my fourth year of med school and do not have any dedicated 'research time' in my schedule for fourth year.
Does taking a month and doing research make sense?
Here are some advantages/disadvantages I have thought about

Advantages - publications?, something to talk about during interview, CV filler
Disadvantages - it may be a waste of time

I have no publications, but have been involved in some ongoing projects.

see reply under "3rd away rotation vs. research elective."

Bottom line- if you can get your name published on something, do it. If not, research probably isn't worth it, unless you're doing it out of real interest.
