We are now accepting applications for a research fellowship position at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This fellowship is a one-year, salaried, full-time research position in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (). Applicants should be on track to graduate Summer 2022.

The research fellow plays an active role in basic science (biomechanics and nerve regeneration labs) and clinical research projects. The fellow will manage multiple research projects, mentor medical students, and collaborate with multiple members of the orthopaedic faculty at the University of Illinois including the department chairman, Dr. Mark Gonzalez, and the residency program director, Dr. Alfonso Mejia.

There are no clinical responsibilities, but the fellow is welcome to attend morning conferences, Grand Rounds, cadaver labs, sawbone workshops, and social events with the Illinois residents. You will learn a great deal about both research and orthopaedics through working in the department amongst great teachers and residents. A majority of past fellows have successfully matched into an orthopaedic surgery residency position.

We would like the fellow to start by May 16th, 2022 (earlier is preferred) to allow the previous fellow to provide training and a transition period for the role. Applications will be accepted until 5 pm CST on Friday, March 18th, 2022. Phone interviews will then be conducted, and the position is expected to be filled soon after. The current and prior research fellows are available for any questions at UICOrthopaedicResearch@gmail.com.

If you are interested, please email the following to UICOrthopaedicResearch@gmail.com
  1. Curriculum Vitae - include your phone number
  2. USMLE board scores - official report not required but preferred
  3. Personal statement
  4. Brief statement (<300 words) explaining your interest in this position
  5. Photograph
This position is NOT open to individuals who have matched into an NRMP training program for the 2022-23 academic year or have any other contractual commitment through NRMP.  Thank you and best of luck!
