P. Statement

Can anyone comment on the ortho personal statement for ERAS; suggestions on personal qualities/attributes
to be included, demeanor, etc...
Thanks, Jose

Re: P. Statement

Make it short and sweet. Most programs do not even look at personal statements until the interview period. In
my interviewing experience, the CV and the personal statement came out during the interview and the doc
would quickly scan one or the other over to look for something to talk about. Therefore, make the PS
interesting and worthy of conversation. Just a few short paragraphs. Long exhausting personal statements
discussing the numerous honors obtained, etc.. quickly get disregarded.

PS

One suggestion - leave out your personal history of orthopaedic trauma or how you had a scope and then
decided to be an orthopaedist. everyone does it and its low yield.

Make it interesting - include something you want to talk about.

Be careful what you boast. In mine, I noted that I had taught upper extremity/shoulder anatomy - my first
question in one interview was what are the 17 muscles that attach to the scapula. - Anything you say is FAIR
GAME.
