Some programs do offer orthopaedic research as an elective. However, I think that these are generally intended for their own students as they usually are involved in ongoing research with their respective department. I think doing an away research elective is not very high yield as it takes much longer than a month to meet faculty supervisors and produce anything of substance or value (aka worth putting on your app).
