I am looking for any information, rumor, speculation, or even bonafide documented facts about NC programs. In particular, does the Chapel Hill program require matching first in a PGY-1 spot and THEN applying in a year for Ortho? Their residency web page seems to suggest this. Also, is the Carolinas program in Charlotte truly the paradise of which the minstrels sing? Why is this so and what kinds of creds are needed to have a shot there?

From my understanding, all of the NC programs are strong. Wake Forest has a research track of two years that you apply to outside of the match. You might not operate as quickly at Duke as some smaller programs according to the residents I've talked to. Finally, Carolinas is a mystery to me.
