NEW ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY RESIDENCY PROGRAM
We are pleased to introduce the newly accredited Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. Dell Medical School is a new medical school, designed from the ground up at a top-tier research university, with the mission of revolutionizing how people get and stay healthy. We aim to educate leaders who transform health care.

The goal of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program is to provide a transformative educational experience to orthopaedic surgical residents that will shape their practice and the delivery of healthcare through a profound understanding of the principles of value-based, patient-centered, integrated healthcare delivery for the management of musculoskeletal disease.

This unique training program is designed to provide residents with a comprehensive foundation of medical knowledge and skills (surgical, interpersonal, communication, and leadership) in the subspecialties of orthopaedic surgery with a focus on team-based, interdisciplinary care for musculoskeletal disease.

RESEARCH
Residents will be able to participate on a multi-disciplinary health services research team that involves health economists, biometricians, social scientists, and design engineers, in the evaluation of value-based payment and delivery models. Residents will be able to collaborate with Orthopaedic faculty, Dell Medical School faculty and staff, and faculty across UT Austin’s 13 colleges and schools including Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Public Policy. David Ring, MD, PhD, Professor of Surgery and Perioperative Care and Associate Dean for Comprehensive Care at Dell Medical School, will oversee Resident research projects.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
Karl Koenig, MD, MS, Program Director
Austin Hill, MD, MPH, Associate Program Director
Kevin Bozic, MD, MBA, Chair, Surgery & Perioperative Care, Dell Medical School
David Ring, MD, PhD, Associate Dean for Comprehensive Care, Dell Medical School

HOW TO APPLY
Applicants must apply through ERAS. Residents will be selected via the National Resident Matching Program. We will be accepting our first class of 4 PGY-1 residents starting in July 2017. We will not backfill any PGY-2 through PGY-5 positions at this time.
