Is there anyone out there who has had experience at either of these two programs? I'm deciding on which one to do an away elective at and would like some first-hand knowledge regarding these programs. Thanks.

One sucks and the other doesn't. Do it at St. Lukes.

I am a resident at montefiore and take exception to some of the BS that these guys are saying about my program. They obviously only spent a 1/2 day here on an interview b/c we treat our medical students extremely well.
I think this is a great place to do a residency. We have the best of both worlds. We have the nice private hospital or community program atmosphere at two of our hospitals and the major Trauma academic atmosphere at our other two hospitals.
We have a great nightfloat system that means we have an 80hour work week and only one call per week as a PGY2 (the hardest year). Our internship is much easier than my medical school 3rd and 4th year rotations. We do work hard and there is nothing we don't see. We have about 35 attendings and so much operative experience that we can't cover all the cases. We also have PA's at all of our hospitals who take care of most of the scut.
The best part of this residency are the residents - we have a really cool group. The bad points of the program are that we lack a research lab and we do not do a lot of research. Another negative is the bronx but you don't have to live in the bronx to work there. Many of us live in Manhattan and westchester. The Bronx has a wealth of orthopaedic pathology and we get awsome experience here.
As far as St. Lukes I do not know much about it and unlike these other guys I do not talk crap about programs I know nothing about.
