Hey,
Does anyone have any information about the ortho program at MUSC? I have heard a few negatives, and was just curious if the program is having troubles. Charleston seems very nice, but I would like to know more about the strengths and weaknesses of the program. Thanks. ):)

I know people from there that have said that it is somewhat (??) weak as a program, except the fact that it is in Charleston. Now, don't get me wrong, its gotta be better than some I've seen, and Charleston is enough to attract some good candidates, especially single guys. Man, is that a heckuva town, beach all around you, girls raised in the South everywhere, and they know how to have a good time. ):)

Plus, I've heard that the night before the interview down there can get pretty crazy!!!!!! If you go with the right applicants. I wish I would have applied, and been able to see that! ):)

Hey I rotated there and was actually one of the wild ones the night before the interview.
Mini-bottles make drinking in Charleston a b*&%$, and there are a few residents that kinda suck, but the rest of them rock. The hospital is nice, but public, and known for having some lazy, unhappy nurses. Charleston's a great place to train - of course, for the chicks and the beach, but also b/c it has a fantastic network of connections that get you whatever fellowship you want. The training while you're there is definitely so-so, though, and there are a couple of dick attendings that the residents don't get to operate at all while they're with them. Sports is weak, but guys are getting great sports fellowships recently. I'm ranking it 4th of 20 behind 3 private programs, if that helps, and the guys in school there aren't choosing it as their No. 1's. And FYI, they take about 20 rotators/yr and give about 30 interviews out. They invite all but 2-3 rotators usually, and the other guys not connected with MUSC are pretty strong candidates. If you're not from there or connected to SC, you'd better have >3.9 and >240, OR rotate there. Hope this helps.
