The Mayo Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine invites second or third year medical students to apply for a one-year clinical research fellowship position starting Spring of 2024. There are three funded research fellowship positions for this upcoming year. For more information, you can view our fellowship information packet

This is a wonderful opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to strengthen their application for the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Match. The research fellow will be expected to work on numerous projects with several investigators; therefore, excellent organizational and communication skills are paramount. Duties include project design, scientific literature search, data collection, progress updates, and book chapter and manuscript preparation.

Our previous fellows have been prolific, with typically 10-30 accepted or published manuscripts and numerous abstracts accepted for presentation at national/international meetings during the year which they receive funding to attend. In addition, fellows have the opportunity to do a one-month rotation in the orthopedic department, take part in an online biostatistics course, explore basic science projects and attend weekly didactic sessions in various disciplines within orthopedics to develop a strong foundation of knowledge.

All 26 previous fellows have successfully matched in residency programs, and we are confident that our current fellows will match this year as well. If you have any additional questions regarding the fellowship, please contact our current fellows: Sean Clark (clark.sean2@mayo.edu), Kong Pan (pan.xuankang@mayo.edu), or Karissa Simon (simon.karissa@mayo.edu).

You may also refer to the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine website for further information on the facility: www.mayoclinic.org/sportsmedcenter-rst/

To apply, please submit an application through www.mayo.edu/research/departments-divisi...ies/gap-year-program and rank "Sports Medicine" as your "Specialty of Interest 1."

Thank you for your interest in our position!
Sincerely,

Mario Hevesi, M.D., Ph.D.
