I think Frieda or NRMP website will give you the exact numbers, but at the Cincinnati interview this year, Dr Stern gave the numbers of about 930 applying for 560 or so spots in last year's match. Sounds about right given ortho's 20-25% applicant unmatched rate.

My friends in urology and ophtho have mentioned the numbers for their fields. I'd like to know if the stats for ortho are anywhere. Although it's a different matching program, they do get a letter after the match in ophtho that gives stats.
