I never see any talk about the Louisiana programs. Does anyone out there know anything about the Louisiana programs? Anyone know any truth, rumors or have any thoughts? I would be most appreciative. Thanks.

I interviewed at Tulane last year. They are very busy and very trauma heavy but both the residents and faculty were friendly and funny. I don't remember much more on account of all the drinking that went on after the interviews (those people know how to party!)

I interviewed at three of the Louisiana programs - LSU New Orleans, LSU Shreveport, and Tulane. My impressions:

LSU Shreveport - a decent program but in a terrible city in which to live. The residents were nice enough but one actually told me to rank the program low on my list. I ranked it last out of 12 programs.

LSU N.O. - there was a rumor last year that their chairman was about to leave...don't know if that actually happened or not. Probably not a big deal anyway as such things happen in the world of academic medicine. The residents were a good group. They operate a ton with a lot of autonomy. A great city. The downside for me since I'm married is that you spend around a year (if I remember correctly) in a small town 3 hours from New Orleans.

Tulane - ranked them fairly highly (7/12). Great group of residents from diverse backgrounds. A little more of an academic program than the other two. Residents also operate a lot with good autonomy. Downsides - 1) charity is a hole and 2) Saturday morning conferences!

Hope this helps. Definately interview in New Orleans if the opportunity arises - lots of beer!
