It seems that schools, at least the upper tier ones, prefer students from name brand schools as opposed to great numbers....provided, of course, that the Ivy students have reasonable credentials. anyone else notice this pattern?

they also seem to select students from about the same schools over a 3-5 year period as opposed to selecting students broadly from the various schools, i.e. school A chooses its students from schools A,B,C and D consistently, and only occasionally from the rest of the alphabet.

There is a definite pattern, but it seems to apply to all programs. Region seems to play a role, and this could be due to the fact that the program directors know the other docs in that region. If the program recognizes your letter writers, those letters probably carry some weight.
