The Rothman Orthopaedic Institute invites medical students to apply for a funded one-year clinical research fellowship with the Jefferson Health New Jersey Orthopaedic Surgery residency, beginning in the summer of 2026. We are committed to delivering exceptional patient care, advancing education, and fostering research excellence. In support of these objectives, we are seeking motivated and dedicated students interested in pursuing a career in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Preference will be given to students who have completed their third year of medical school. The fellowship requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, and outstanding organizational abilities.

This will provide opportunities to strengthen his/her application for orthopaedic residency, to expose the fellow to academic orthopedics, and to teach research skills that can be used to foster an academic career. The fellow will be directly involved in all facets of the research process including, development of study questions, literature review, study design, IRB approvals, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, writing of manuscripts, and preparation of presentations. Fellows will spend substantial time in both the outpatient clinic and operating room setting. Fellows additionally have the opportunity to attend weekly didactic conferences and to interact routinely with residents and clinical fellows. The position is funded. The job description as follows:
  • Prepare manuscripts, textbook chapters, posters, presentations, and educational videos 
  • Participate in research meeting, seminars, journal clubs, symposia, and professional society meetings
  • Manage and mentor student researchers
  • Provide research study education to participants as part of a study protocol
  • Develop research studies and designs
  • Compose research protocols, IRB documents and proposals
  • Collecting, organizing and analyzing collected clinical data
