I am a third year almost certain about orthopaedics. Right now I am thinking oncology would be a great fellowship. How does this affect what residency I go to ie If I go to a small community program will I have to sweat it out placing into a fellowship.
My standards right now are
1) residents are happy
2) attendees are good to work with
3) at end of residency will have solid skills and feel confident about those skills...name recognition is not important
4) avoid programs with major egos who are tough to work with
any ideas of good programs or advice or information on oncology since I don't know all that much would be really helpful
Thanks

There is only a handful of onc fellowships. Very few people are interested in them, so I don't think you'll have a problem finding one. However, you may change your mind after experiencing musculoskeletal onc, so keep your doors open.

Also, getting a fellowship that does not participate in the match process is all about "who knows who". Therefore, I would recommend trying to get into a program with an onc doc on staff.
