Dear Medical Students,

The Spine Institute at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio is inviting highly motivated medical students to apply for a full-time, paid clinical research fellowship during the 2021-2022 academic year. This fellowship is intended for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th-year medical students who are interested in gaining additional exposure to the field and enhancing their residency application.

During this time, you will work closely with attendings, fellows, and residents within the Department of Orthopaedics at UH. In addition to the four Orthopaedic Spine attendings, fellows will collaborate with attendings in musculoskeletal oncology, neurosurgery, among others. Fellows will have extensive opportunities for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation of research at national/international conferences. In this role, students will be designing research studies and performing literature reviews, drafting/submitting IRB proposals, collecting data and working closely with the department statistician, and writing/submitting publications. In addition to overseeing a small team of medical students, fellows will also have opportunities to attend weekly educational activities such as Spine Indications conference and journal club. Fellows can expect excellent mentorship from the attendings within the Spine division and assistance during the residency match process.

We are inviting interested students to send a CV and a very brief introduction to Dr. Innocent Njoku (Innocent.Njoku@uhhospitals.org), the current research fellow. He may also be reached for any further questions or inquiry. Research fellows should preferably commit to a start date in July 2021.
