The Division of Spine Surgery at the Rothman Institute is seeking a 3rd year or recently unmatched medical student for a 1-year paid research fellowship position. This is a salaried position that will begin around May-June 2017 and is open to all candidates who will have completed at least 3 years of medical school or will have graduated by that time.

This is a unique opportunity that will allow the Candidate to work closely with Dr. Alex Vaccaro, Dr. Alan Hilibrand, Dr. Chris Kepler, Dr. Greg Schroeder and the rest of the spine attendings at the Rothman Institute.

The Spine Department at Rothman is one of the most productive spine departments in the country, and applicants can expect to have 10-15 publications within the year, and even more for the highly motivated. This position is ideal for a student hoping to match into an orthopaedic surgery residency position. The attendings in the department are very supportive of the research fellows and will help you in the application process. The previous 2 research fellows who held this position have both matched. There are many projects both new and ongoing that the research fellow will help to complete, with first authorship opportunities for any project that you significantly contribute to. For applicants who will be applying to residency during the research fellowship time will be given for interviews.

Duties Include:
-Manuscript submission and preparation
-Abstract submission and poster presentations at national conferences
-Coordination of multi-center trials/studies
-Submission of Protocols to the IRB
-Drafting and assisting in the writing/editing of book chapters
-Managing medical students working on projects in the department

-Interest in orthopaedic research
-Highly motivated and able to self manage
-Detail Oriented
