Orthopedic Sports Medicine Research Fellowship
Location: Brigham & Women’s Hospital; Boston, Massachusetts
Preceptor: Scott D. Martin

Dr. Scott D. Martin of Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts cordially invites all qualified current third year medical students to apply for a yearlong research fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. This is a unique opportunity for medical students to work directly with a nationally recognized Orthopedic surgeon on numerous clinical and basic science research projects. There are also numerous (weekly) opportunities to evaluate patients in clinic and assist in the operating room for a truly comprehensive mentorship experience.

Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to:

- Overseeing all research projects from study design to publication
- Developing and leading new research protocols, including laboratory-based and clinical outcomes research
- Collaborating with orthopedic residents and fellows on research projects
- Collecting data on research subjects via review of patient charts, imaging, etc. and maintenance of databases
- Preparing research protocols/applications
- Preparing grant proposals
- Identifying, consenting, and acting as a resource for study participants
- Data analysis and the writing or editing of abstracts and manuscript
- Creating presentations for orthopedic conferences
- Preparation of textbook chapters
- Overseeing and training the Research Aide

Qualifications

- Applications will be accepted from current third year medical students from accredited U.S. M.D. programs
- Applicant is willing to take a “year-off” from medical school to complete research year, which starts in early June
- Applicant is in good standing with medical school
- Applicant demonstrated strong interest/dedication to orthopedic research
- Applicant intends to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery 

This is a full-time salaried position with benefits.
