Hey guys,
A resident at the program I am rotating with gave me some tips about the interview dinner that I wanted to pass along to you guys. Good luck at interviews!

1. Scope the place out in advance. Study the menu, know what you will order before you get there. No hesitation. No stupid questions. Typically these dinners have a lot of people and you dont want to annoy anyone asking a million questions about a taco.
2. Don't order something you have to cut. I have been told that you can be critiqued on how you hold a knife or if you use your utensils improperly. You are going to be a surgeon after all.
3. Fold your napkin carefully, this can be a predictor of draping ability.
4. Remember to keep the conversation cordial yet professional. Sports events are great, football is a great conversation starter. If you own a cat, kill it before the dinner and DONT talk about it.
5. This is NOT a time to talk about your personal problems, or money issues you may be having. Do NOT bore your superiors with stories about your school or personal life, no one cares.
6. What about women's volleyball? Seriously? What's that all about?

Just remember these quick points and take a deep breath, it'll all be over soon. Good luck everyone!

Excellent advice. Let me add a couple more that I've heard:

Napkin tucked into your collar. Call the waiter "garcon." Make sure your pronunciation is on. Offer to pay for everyone.
