not sure, the email did not specify. This is all it said:

Our rank list has been sub-divided into three groups, highly competitive, competitive and less competitive candidates. Most of our matched residents will come from the highly competitive group (this is the group that has the greatest chance of matching at Washington University Orthopaedic Surgery). Some will come from the competitive group. It is anticipated that few candidates in the less competitive group will successfully match at Washington University.

I'm curious too about hss. I assume no news is bad news- my "unranked" letter is probably in the mail as I type- but has anyone heard?

Anyone here from UMKC? They mentioned they would contact their top 10.

What about University of Wisconsin? They said they called their top, and sent letters to the next tier.

I got an email about a week ago saying I'm on the rank list, but no indication where I was on that list. I also got snail mail stating the same. I'm a bit confused since on interview day I thought they said there would be more specific information. Looking at past years it seems like this would be a middle-tier letter, but since nobody has posted, maybe it's different this time around? Did anybody get something else yet?

Just got a letter from HSS saying that I will not be ranked on their list and that I have no chance of matching at HSS.

They said it a little nicer but they were very blunt/clear about what it means.
