It's time a thread was started to address the specific topic of post-interview "activity" and what different programs are known to do. Which programs really "want" to get a thank-you letter? Whic programs need you to come for a second-look in order for you to match there? Which programs don't care? Which send letters? Who makes calls? etc...

Facts are good. Rumors are fine. Let's hear it all.

What about Maryland? I heard that maybe they were making calls... can anyone squash this rumor or confirm it? I'm think of second looks too, what do you think? Dr Sawbonze?

I think everyone who interviewed at Hopkins gets the a letter. I think I got the same bland letter.
Pitt has definitely made some phone calls.

Nothing from Pitt or HSS for me. Harvard said they would not be calling this year. I did get a letter for Hopkins that was exceptionally bland - if anyone wants to compare nots on that, let me know.

I have heard rumors that if you did not rotate at Duke most applicants "should" do a second-look if they want to be ranked highly...

HSS sends a letter indicating in which of 3 tiers you are ranked. I learned about this on thus forum and it has been verified by residents in the program. I am not sure how highly they value thank-you notes. I am not sure when the letters go out.
