The Mayo Clinic Division of Pediatric Orthopedics in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery is pleased to offer a 12-month research fellowship. The purpose of this program is to provide highly capable applicants with additional training in clinical and basic science research. Responsibilities may include enrollment and maintenance of prospective databases, completion of IRBs and protocols, and the opportunity to complete multiple independent clinical research projects. Surgeons in the Division of Pediatric Orthopedics will serve as your mentors and supervisors. The successful applicant will be highly organized and motivated with good time management skills and the ability to work independently. The research fellow may attend departmental conferences, journal clubs, division research meetings, and outreach clinics. Learning objectives include development of a research hypothesis and study design, IRB preparation, data abstraction, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation. The goal of the rotation is authorship on multiple peer-reviewed publications and podium presentations at national meetings. During the research year, you may arrange for away rotations, interviews, or other site visits as needed to further your career, as this is an unfunded position. Upon acceptance, US citizens or Green card holders may apply for partial salary funding through a T32 NIH mechanism. Our peds program has matched 3 US grads into ortho, and 2 IMGs into prelim/fellowship positions.
