Can any current residents and/or recent interviewees say what they think about Marshall? Here is what I know about them:

It's in Huntington WV which looks like a smallish middle-of-nowhere type town.

It's a relatively new program in only its 4th year of existence.

I have heard that they basically have you mathematically pre ranked before you even show up and that your interview has little effect on your final ranking.

I have heard that they interview nearly 100 applicants a year and rank only around 30 to fill 4 positions.

That's about it, any info would be great because there has been little discussion previously. Thanks so much for your help!

#1. True
#2. True
#3. Don't know about that
#4. True, except it's only 3 spots.

Really, the only drawback to this program (for me) is Huntington. But if you like small-town life then it could be a good thing. The chairman has a vision for the where he wants the program to go. The faculty is expanding and there has not been much turnover, if any at all. All specialties are well represented except peds which you have to go to Univ. of Kentucky Shriners for (Shriners is awesome place to do peds). Good volume, could probably handle a 4th resident without difficulty. Faculty are awesome and like to teach. I had faculty outside of my designated service pull me aside to teach me something or show me a cool xray when I was rotating. Best of all, the residents get along well and like to have a good time. Good mix of married and single.
