# of interviews

what is considered a solid number of interviews for one to have to match this year? It seems as if things
have slowed considerably and I am wondering if we should be expecting more or what?

Magic Number

Seems like the old standby is that you should (statistically) match somewhere if you interview at ten
programs. But, if you are a complete tool, you could interview at 40 and not get a spot! My goal is to
interview at 12-15.

re:

i agree...i think your goal should be 12-15...but i guess nothing is a guarantee...you could match with 5
interviews and not match with 18.

# of interviews

I have no idea how many to go on, but personally, I'm going on 16 so far . . . but then again, I'm anal
and would rather match somewhere than nowhere. Our dean of students told us pretty much that if you
get 8-12 interview OFFERS that, that pretty much says you're competitive and that you're most likely to
match somewhere. If we didn't get that many, we were to meet with him to discuss what went wrong
and how to fix it . . . quickly.

As for actually going on # of interviews, he didn't say, but you can only rank 15 programs through the
NRMP without having to pay extra and I think I read somewhere that if you don't match at your first 15
programs you're not likely to match at all. So, 15 seems to be kind of a target number . . . perhaps. It's
all voodoo anyway. =) See the thread on # of interviews and why people get as many as they do and
from where and you'll marvel at the randomness of it all.
