2024-25 Spine Surgery Research Fellowship at Brown University

Dr. Bryce Basques
 invites 3rd and 4th year US medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery to apply for a one-year spine surgery research fellowship at Brown University. Competitive candidates are willing to take a year off between their 3rd and 4th year and who demonstrate a strong interest in orthopaedics and an outstanding work ethic.

Position: Spine Surgery Research Fellow
Duration: 1 year
Start Date: May 2024
Compensation: Monthly stipend + conference registration/travel
Location: Brown University, Providence, RI, USA

Responsibilities:
  • Manage multiple research projects, organize and maintain all aspects of the projects
  • Organize and present ongoing research updates at weekly meetings 
  • Statistical analysis of data
  • Create and submit protocols to the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Assist in preparation of PowerPoint presentations, website educational material
  • Opportunity to lead studies with other junior medical students/research assistants
 Requirements: 
  • MS3 or MS4 students with a planned career in orthopaedic surgery
  • Prior research experience preferred
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Outstanding time management
  • Able to work well in a team setting
  • Ethical with strong moral character
  • Outstanding work ethic
  • US applicants only (We do not provide visas)
 Goals/Opportunities of the Fellowship: 
  • 10+ peer reviewed publications, with first author opportunities directly related to your contribution
  • 15+ conference presentations, and book chapters
  • Collaboration with orthopaedic residents and attendings
  • Opportunities to observe surgical procedures and/or spend time in clinic
  • Chance to join in Orthopaedic Grand Rounds and Journal Clubs
  • Opportunities and support to present research at Orthopaedic/Spine Conferences
  • Gain support in your orthopaedic surgery match
