This opportunity affords a unique experience in high volume orthopaedic research and offers a full immersion into the field of academic orthopaedics. As the research ‘point person’ the fellow is responsible for managing the multiple (40+) projects involving a wide breadth of clinical, biomechanical, anatomic, and imaging studies. The fellow is also responsible for securing and maintaining IRB, HIPAA and Human Subjects protection policies to ensure ethical research practices and maintenance of patient confidentiality in a multicenter research setting. On-the-job training will be provided as necessary. This is a paid full-time position for the 2016-2017 academic year (beginning June 2016).

-Each week the fellow must add all surgical patients to the database and record preoperative and intra-operative data, as well as ensure that preoperative outcome forms are completed
-Each week, the fellow must go through the database and obtain two year postoperative follow up on patients. This often requires calling patients making strong interpersonal skills an important part of the job.
-The fellow must also ensure that the IRB for the repository remains active

Anatomic and Biomechanical Studies

These involve working with cadaveric hip specimens. The research fellow is responsible for ordering specimens and preparing them for anatomic dissection and biomechanics testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor‘s degree in health science related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience with research and statistical analysis
- Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills are essential.
- Familiarity and experience with FDA and IRB regulatory requirements is preferred.
- Strong skills in various computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, electronic medical records systems, digital radiographic imaging systems and research databases.

Emphasis will be placed on applicants that have had prior experience completing research projects from start to finish. This entails gaining and maintaining IRB approval, data acquisition, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. This is an exceptional opportunity ideally suited to 3rd and 4th year medical students interested in academic orthopaedics. As hip arthroscopy is an emerging field, there are numerous opportunities to publish and present novel research at national and international conferences. While challenging, this position provides unparalleled exposure to a wide variety orthopaedic research and the ability to increase competitiveness when applying for orthopaedic surgery residency positions.
