SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, is offering a one- or two-year Orthopedic Research Fellowship. This salaried position is designed for rising third- or fourth-year medical students or medical graduates interested in pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery and looking to enhance their residency applications. The fellowship start date is flexible but ideally would begin in May 2025, and no later than July 2025. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with the position expected to be filled within the coming months. Historically, fellows from our program have achieved exceptional success rates in matching into orthopedic surgery residencies.This fellowship provides extensive experience across all orthopedic subspecialties, working closely with renowned faculty from each division, including Sports Medicine, Joint Replacement, Spine Surgery, Pediatric Orthopedics, Orthopedic Trauma, Hand Surgery, Foot and Ankle Surgery, and Orthopedic Oncology. Fellows will actively participate in clinical research projects, working with national/state medical databases; therefore, having a strong statistical background is recommended, along with programming skills in R and basic knowledge of SQL. Responsibilities include manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed publications, data collection and analysis, and presenting findings at regional and national conferences.Preferred candidates have experience in a high-volume research environment or institution.Research fellows will attend daily academic conferences alongside orthopedic surgery residents and faculty, gaining invaluable insights into clinical practice and cutting-edge research. This fellowship is an outstanding opportunity to strengthen one's academic credentials, build professional networks, and significantly improve competitiveness for residency applications in orthopedic surgery.Researchers will work under the direction of:
