WVU Orthopaedic Research ScholarWVU Orthopaedics is committed to advancing research surrounding orthopaedics and orthopaedic surgery. Additionally, we are excited to be part of the development of the clinician-scientists of the future. The WVU Orthopaedic Research Scholar opportunity will provide future clinician-scientists with an opportunity to produce research while engaging with world-class faculty, participating in the orthopaedic didactic curriculum and exploring clinical opportunities. The WVU Orthopaedic Research Scholar is a unique opportunity for unmatched medical students to participate in a year-long research experience. We are seeking motivated students who are eager to improve their orthopaedic research experience and engage in cutting-edge orthopaedic research. Clinical ExperienceAs part of the research fellowship, we recognize the importance of understanding relevant clinical questions. Therefore, the fellow will spend at one-half day per week in clinics or operating rooms on a rotating observership basis which will allow the fellow to engage with faculty, residents and other students while exploring additional research questions. Scholars will also be invited to participate in weekly didactic conferences including grand rounds, indication conferences and journal clubs. The success of the research fellow is important to our faculty, and the fellow will participate in a formal mentor/mentee relationship with designated faculty. Research ExperienceThe WVU Orthopaedic Research Scholar opportunity is a funded one-year fellowship that will start after the match process completes and applications are reviewed. The start date is flexible, but fellows are encouraged to participate as soon as possible based on the graduation requirements at their home institution. The research fellowship is based on the tremendous success we have seen with our categorical match research track in which residents have presented at national and international conferences, published over 30 manuscripts over the last 5 years and gone on to successful careers in orthopaedic surgery. Our department has clinical research personnel to assist with data collection, IRB submission and manuscript preparation. Clinical faculty and departmental statisticians will assist with the completion of projects and presentation and publication of the work. The goal is to provide a complete research experience that improves the fellow’s understanding of translational research.Skills Developed:Project Design
