The Rubin Institute for Advanced
Orthopedics (RIAO) at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is offering a one- or two-year research fellowship under the direction of Dr. Michael A. Mont.This is a salaried position intended for:
  1. Rising fourth-year medical students
  2. Unmatched fourth-year medical students
  3. MD/DO graduates
Applicants should be interested in orthopaedic surgery as a career and seeking to strengthen their residency applications. The fellowship will begin no later than July 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with the expectation of filling positions by April 2026Two positions are available. Over 98% of prior research fellows have successfully matched into orthopaedic surgery residency programs.

GOALS
  • Investigate basic science and clinical aspects of total joint arthroplasty and joint preservation
  • Learn to design studies and extract clinical data from institutional and national databases
  • Develop an applied understanding of biostatistics in orthopaedic research
  • Prepare manuscripts and textbook chapters
  • Present research at meetings, seminars, journal clubs, symposia, and professional society conferences
  • Enhance orthopaedic knowledge through daily morning conferences with the orthopaedic surgery residency, led by Program Director Dr. Jack Ingari and Chair Dr. James Nace
REQUIREMENTS
  • Only U.S. MD or DO applicants will be considered
  • Applicants must have completed and passed their third year of medical school prior to the start date
  • Passing score on USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1; graduated applicants must also have a passing Step 2 or Level 2 score
  • Prior experience in research, academic writing, or biostatistics is recommended but not required
  • Submission of a complete application, as outlined below
