Nationwide Children’s Hospital is pleased to invite highly motivated 3rd-year medical students and 4th-year unmatched orthopedic residency applicants to apply for our full-time, in-person, one-year Medical Student Research Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics. This immersive program is an exceptional opportunity to strengthen an orthopedic residency application while developing meaningful research skills in a high-volume pediatric academic center.

About the Fellowship
Fellows will join the Clinical Research Team in the Department of Orthopedics at Nationwide Children’s, one of the largest and most comprehensive pediatric institutions in the country. This role offers unparalleled exposure to clinical research, pediatric musculoskeletal pathology, and collaboration with attending surgeons, residents, and clinical research staff. The position is under the mentorship of Sean Tabaie, MD, MBA, FAAOS, FAOA (Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon & Director, Neuro-Orthopedics Program) and Kirsten Tulchin‑Francis, PhD (Director, Orthopedic Research).

As a Research Fellow, you will:
  • Work directly with pediatric orthopedic surgeons and the clinical research team
  • Participate in study design, project development, and both literature and systematic reviews
  • Assist with data collection, data entry, and statistical analysis
  • Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for submission to regional and national orthopedic meetings
  • Gain hands-on exposure through:
    • Resident didactic sessions
    • Skills labs
    • Weekly shadowing opportunities in clinic and the operating room
Fellows typically complete multiple manuscript and abstract submissions over the course of the fellowship. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals who:
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced research environment
  • Are able to manage and prioritize multiple research projects simultaneously
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills
  • Are interested in pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery
  • Can commit to full‑time, in‑person work for 10–12 months at Nationwide Children’s Hospital
