Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, is now accepting applications for a two-year, fully funded Orthopaedic Surgery Research Fellowship. This is an invaluable opportunity for medical students and graduates aspiring to match into orthopaedic surgery residency. 

Formerly a research resident position, this non-categorical 2-year research fellowship allows orthopaedic surgery candidates to integrate with an orthopaedic clinical team while developing research and leadership skills. Fellows work closely with our residency program leadership and are frequently recruited into our residency program or sponsored into other programs of their choosing. 

Position:  Two-Year Clinical Research Fellowship
Principal Investigators: Jack Choueka, M.D. (Chairman; Chief, Hand/Upper Extremity Division), Afshin Razi, M.D. (Residency Program Director; Vice-Chairman, Academics and Research; Chief, Spine), and Amr Abdelgawad, M.D. (Vice-Chairman, Orthopedic Clinical Programs; Chief, Pediatrics).
Positions Available: 1
Duration: Two years
When: June 2026-June 2028 (Flexible)
Who: Un-matched U.S.-accredited medical school students or recent graduates
Where: Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY
Salary: Fully funded

Fellowship Highlights:-              

  • Mentorship: Work directly with Dr. Jack Choueka (Chair) and Dr. Afshin Razi (Vice-Chair and Residency Program Director)
  • Research: Lead clinical projects with full departmental support
  • Academic Growth: Target 20-25 publications and 25+ national conference presentations
  • Education: Participate in resident conferences, cadaver labs, grand rounds, and journal clubs
  • Clinical Experience: Learn alongside faculty and residents in the hospital and outpatient clinics
  • Leadership: Manage the Maimonides Summer Research Experience (MSRE) program
