Sports Medicine Research Fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH

The Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute at University Hospitals is now accepting applications from highly motivated US medical students for a one-year, paid, full-time clinical research fellowship position in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for June 2024- June 2025. The research fellow will work directly with Drs. Voos, Gillespie, Salata, Calcei, Karns, Chen, and Apostolakos as well as the orthopaedic surgery residents and orthopaedic surgery sports medicine fellow. 

Goals and responsibilities of the research fellow:
  • Management of new and ongoing clinical trials
  • Assisting in clinic with enrolling patients into prospective trials and collecting follow-up data
  • Drafting and maintaining IRB approvals
  • Assisting with study design, data collection, and data analysis
  • Preparation and submission of abstracts and manuscripts
  • Coordinating bimonthly Sports Medicine Research Meetings
Ideal characteristics of the research fellow:
  • Ability to manage multiple projects 
  • A strong interest in clinical research and motivation for a career in orthopaedics
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
During the fellowship, there are opportunities for the research fellow to present research projects at local and national conferences. There is funding for travel to the AAOS annual meeting as well as support to present accepted research at additional meetings. Past fellows have been successful at authoring multiple manuscripts and presenting their research at several orthopaedic conferences. This unique fellowship provides the opportunity to gain significant experience in sports medicine research, make valuable connections, and strengthen an application to orthopaedic surgery residency.
