IRVINE, Calif. [Sept. 27, 2018] Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), one of the largest providers of orthopedic care in the nation, will co-host the 10th annual Orthopedic Nursing Symposium along with the Orange County chapter of the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) on Monday, Oct. 1 at 16250 Sand Canyon Ave., Irvine, CA 92618. More than 150 nurses from across California are expected to attend the marquee, educational event to learn about the latest news, information and best practices in orthopedic nursing.

“The HOI team and I are delighted to mark the 10th anniversary of hosting this learning collaboration event for orthopedic nurses across the state,” said Jennifer Mitzner, CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute.

Speakers will include various HOI surgeons and nurses, such as Robert S. Gorab, M.D., Steven L. Barnett, M.D. and Tanya Barahona, BSN, RN, ONC. Topics addressed at the event will include post-operative pain management and the opioid crisis, the role of a patient educator in an orthopedic specialty hospital and preventing infections in orthopedic surgery. Alan Beyer, M.D. and founding partner of HOI, will give a closing speech envisioning the future of orthopedic care with a retrospective look at what HOI’s vision was when founded nearly a decade ago.

“We are truly passionate about providing the highest quality care for our patients, and we feel strongly that our outcomes are evidence that we are doing things the right way, so it’s incumbent upon us to share,” said Marisa Swain, MSN, RN, ONC, a clinical nurse specialist with Hoag Orthopedic Institute who is part of the committee that plans the event. “We so value the opportunity to impart our knowledge, and to be afforded the opportunity to learn from our peers as well.”

HOI will have a surprise giveaway for each attendant and are waiving fees for those who attended the inaugural year.
