The Mayo Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine invite second and third year medical students to apply for a one-year Translational Science Research Fellowship position starting either Fall of 2018 or Spring of 2019.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to strengthen and deepen their translational knowledge, explore their interest in adding more science to their career, and acquire new technical skills. The research fellow will be expected to work on numerous projects with several investigators; therefore, excellent organizational and communication skills are paramount.

Duties include project design, Institutional Review Board applications, scientific literature search, data collection, Laboratory analysis, specimen collection, tissue processing, in vitro and in vivo experimentation, progress updates and presentation & manuscript preparation.

You will have the opportunity to work with well-known basic scientists as well as an active group of clinicians pursuing translational regenerative medicine. Research fellows have the opportunity to participate in all lab meetings, attend key note speakers and meetings to host visiting scientists, as well as practice surgical skills and review relevant anatomy working in the cadaver lab with residents/attendings, take part in an online biostatistics course, and attend weekly didactic sessions in various disciplines within Orthopedic Surgery.
