Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Trauma Research Position 2021-2022

The Division of Orthopaedic Trauma at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking applicants for its research program beginning July 2021. The full-time paid position is ideal for U.S. allopathic or osteopathic medical students seeking to build a strong foundation for a career in orthopaedic surgery.

Application Summary:

Eligibility: U.S. allopathic or osteopathic medical students who have completed their third year (M3)

We will also consider other U.S. allopathic or osteopathic medical students who have a minimum 1-year of availability or outstanding college graduates for a 2-year commitment.

Where: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is the busiest trauma center in the greater Los Angeles area and one of the largest hospitals in the Western United States with nearly 1,000 beds. It is home to one of the top orthopaedic departments in the nation (#3 in US News and World Report). The medical center has a strong commitment to innovation, research, and treating underserved communities in Los Angeles.

Who: The Division of Orthopaedic Trauma members are Drs. Charles Moon (chief), Mark Vrahas (department chair), John Garlich, Carol Lin, Milton Little and Geoffrey Marecek.

Start: Approximately July 1, 2021, negotiable

Duration: 1 year full-time, paid position

Research Duties:

The trauma clinical research associate will be integrally involved in developing, coordinating and conducting research of the division of orthopaedic trauma at Cedars-Sinai. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending daily conferences
  • Writing and submitting manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters
  • Supervising and collaborating with junior medical student or undergraduate researchers
  • Working with departmental coordinators to enroll and complete follow up for prospective, funded research studies
  • Designing and implementing research studies including managing IRB proposals
  • Patient enrollment and data collection
  • Analysis of collected clinical and non-clinical data
  • Assisting with grant applications

Opportunities:

The research associate will have the opportunity to participate in the residency program curriculum and attend departmental conferences and functions. They will be able to interface with the residents, trauma fellow, and faculty on a daily basis. Shadowing in the clinic and operating room are available. 

The research associate will have regular meetings with faculty and can expect support and guidance toward achieving their career goals. Our aim is to establish and nurture a relationship with a future colleague.

  • Previous experience with clinical research
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office
  • Statistical background and familiarity with statistical software
  • Familiarity with REDCap software
  • Ability to quickly learn software and computer systems
