Already a highly sought after physician who works with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and US Olympic Team, Coastal Orthopedics surgeon Daniel Lamar, MD is bringing his sports medicine expertise to the Manatee High School athletic program.  A former starting wide receiver for Coach Joe Kinnan and the Manatee High Hurricanes, Dr. Lamar has kept his eye on the football team's progress since graduating from high school.

"In many ways I've come full circle by returning to Manatee," says Lamar, "My work with the Bucs over the past seven seasons has given me a unique perspective into sports medicine and I'm happy to bring that knowledge to my former team."  Dr. Lamar not only cares for sports related injuries, but also helps educate young athletes on ways to prevent them. Lamar's sports team experience doesn't stop with the Buccaneers and US Soccer Team; he also serves as orthopedic physician to the Pittsburgh Pirates and IMG Academies. The extensive list of Dr. Lamar's accomplishments is a great source of pride for Manatee High's Athletic Director and legendary football coach, Joe Kinnan.  As Dr. Lamar's high school football coach, Kinnan remembers the doctor as a great player and team leader.    "Having Dr. Lamar be part of the team again is the beginning of a new chapter for our school," says Coach Kinnan, "his skills and expertise are cutting edge in his field and I know he'll provide our team with the best possible support." Dr. Lamar will be replacing Owen McCarthy, MD, a much beloved and well-remembered figure of the school. "The Manatee community owes a great margin of gratitude to Dr. McCarthy, and I'm honored to be following in his commitment," says Dr. Lamar.  With a well-accomplished athletic program, Manatee can only gain from this new pairing, and it serves as proof that one can indeed come home again.
