Indiana University Health/Methodist Hospital is seeking qualified candidates to fill two Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship positions for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Methodist Hospital, the busiest level 1 trauma center in Indiana, receives approximately 3700 trauma patients per year – over 90% of which are victims of blunt trauma and nearly 30% are multiply injured. The educational program is highlighted by a daily conference with all faculty to discuss all inpatient cases . Inpatient duties are primarily the responsibility of a full team of advanced providers.

There are 6 full-time, trauma-fellowship trained faculty (W. Virkus, A. Sorkin, T. McKinley, G Gaski, M. Zlowodzki, L. Kempton) that currently perform 2500 operations annually. There are no residents on the service making this an exceptional operative experience. There is a particular focus on multidisciplinary management of multiply injured patients with high energy fractures. Training in posttraumatic limb reconstruction including pelvic osteotomy, multiplanar external fixation, and infection will be available.

There are extensive clinical and basic scientific research opportunities, as well as education and emphasis on the "business" of orthopedic trauma care. Qualified candidates are current PGY4 orthopedic residents in an accredited US or Canadian orthopedic residency program and available to obtain an Indiana medical license. Due to a transition in the entire orthopedic trauma staff at Methodist Hospital in early 2013, we are not yet eligible to participate in the OTA sponsored trauma match program; therefore, these positions will be filled outside of the OTA match process.
