Rush Research Fellowship: Sports Medicine - Hip

Dr. Shane J. Nho is seeking ambitious medical students who are interested in pursuing a year-long clinical research fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. With Orthopaedics at Rush ranked #5 in the nation, this unique position will allow the research assistant to work closely with a prominent orthopaedic attending surgeon, residents, fellows, medical students and faculty. 

 

Dr. Nho is the Director of Young Adult Hip Surgery and Associate Professor at Rush Medical College of Rush University in Chicago, Illinois. He was awarded the 2021 Stephen J. Snyder, M.D. Excellence in Teaching Award for his dedication to the advancement of minimally invasive surgery. He is a team physician for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Steel, Chicago Fire, DePaul University and Roosevelt University. Dr. Nho specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery for the shoulder, hip, and knee. 

 

Prerequisites for the position includes:

  • Ability to start early June
  • Completion of research training program at Rush during first 2 weeks of fellowship
  • Passing of research training competency prior to participating in research activities
  • Evident interest in research
  • Strong academic record
  • MUST be extremely organized and detail oriented
  • MUST have strong communication skills
  • MUST be able to self-manage and work independently
  • MUST be able to work efficiently with clinical staff

The research assistant will work very closely with the Clinical Research Management team and research coordinators for the other sports medicine attendings.

Assistantship responsibilities includes:

  • Coordination of all of the principal investigator’s research projects including both clinical and basic science studies with guidance from the Clinical Management team
  • Follow good clinical practice for informed consent and inclusion/ exclusion research criterion
  • Entry of forms in process note in the REDCap document
  • Data entry into EMR platforms and upload research procedure documents to electronic platforms
  • Collection of intra-operative data as well as following up with patients in clinic and/or by phone
  • Dissection/testing of cadaveric specimens for research purposes
  • Assist with manuscript, presentation, and grant preparations as requested including, but not limited to, literature searches and graphics preparations.
