Duration: 1 year; beginning Summer (June/July) 2021
Who we are looking for: U.S. Medical students looking to pursue a residency in Orthopedic Surgery who are between years M2-M3 or M3-M4, or who have gone unmatched after M4 year but will be re-applying for Orthopedic residency.
Where: Washington D.C
The Virginia Spine Institute in collaboration with The National Spinal Health Foundation in Reston, VA is accepting applications from 3rd year medical students, unmatched 4th year medical students, and recent US medical graduates for a one-year paid clinical research position. The research fellow will work closely with four spine attendings and the rest of the research team including fellows, residents, students, and others. This is an excellent opportunity to expand one’s knowledge and research experience in orthopaedic spine surgery and to strengthen an application for the orthopedic surgery residency match.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management of clinical trials and ongoing studies
- Drafting and submitting IRB proposals
- Study recruitment
- Data collection and management
- Data analysis
- Manuscript writing and submission
- Attending research and educational meetings
The position will provide the fellow with opportunities such as:
- Strengthen your orthopedic residency application
- Direct guidance and mentorship from experienced orthopedic clinician-investigators
- Co-author 10-15 manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, and posters
