One fellow each year participates as an assistant in clinic and surgery. The fellow will also participate in research in knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, foot & ankle surgery. The focus of research will be outcomes of new surgical techniques, anatomic studies, and clinical outcomes. The Fellow will participate in journal clubs, teaching conferences, anatomy labs, and industry sponsored workshops. They are expected to prepare publication-quality research.

The fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Eugene Wolf, a pioneer and inventor in knee and shoulder surgery. The fellow will observe arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and focus on rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization, and ligamentous reconstruction. The open surgery focus is on complicated reconstructions and revision arthroplasty of the shoulder and knee. Anatomic and reverse arthroplasty of the shoulder and total and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty are well covered.

The fellow will work with Dr. James Chen who focuses on knee, shoulder, and elbow surgery. In the knee, focus is on primary and multiple revision cruciate ligament reconstruction, complex multi-ligamentous knee reconstruction, and meniscus transplantation. In the shoulder focus is on stabilization and biologic rotator cuff repair. The elbow focus is on open and arthroscopic procedures.

The fellow will gain experience in Foot & Ankle and Hip pathology with Dr. Edward Shin who focuses on arthroscopic surgery of the foot & ankle, hip, knee and shoulder. In the knee the focus is on cruciate reconstruction, meniscus preservation, and cartilage restoration. In the ankle the focus is on arthroscopic treatment of cartilage lesion. In the hip the focus is on arthroscopic treatment of femoral acetabular impingement.

This position is ideal for an unmatched US Medical School graduate or surgical resident interested in Orthopaedic Surgery.

The fellow receives an annual stipend, two weeks of vacation, and sponsorship at two continuing education/academic courses. Malpractice insurance as a surgical assistant will be provided. Graduation from a US Medical School is required. However, a California Medical License or PTAL is not required for the fellow.
